Steps To Go Abroad

In years past, most SMU students have preferred to study abroad over the summer rather than for whole semesters. But this year’s sophomore class is breaking records with students studying abroad for semesters 

Although many students have found interest in studying abroad, the process is not easy. There are many steps students have to accomplish before setting off to their preferred location for the semester.

1. Picking the location to study is the first step. Usually students try to studying in a country with a different language, in hopes of becoming fluent in that language

2. Next, Students must fill out an application to their preferred program. Usually programs require at least a 3.0 gpa to apply. Also, it is a lot easier for students to apply through SMU programs than other university for credit hours.
3. After students get accepted into their programs, they need to get classes approved. Getting classes approved takes a while, especially if students are studying abroad not through SMU. Students usually
4. Next, students who study for a long period of time( like a semester) need to get visas for the specific country they are staying in

Finally after completing all of these steps students are ready to spend a semester in a different country!
